No longer is it the case that “Rubber is heavy, so you should invest Hybrid or PVC”, nor is it true “Rubber hoses would have been the obvious choice, only if they were a bit lighter”. We are now living in an age where rubber is the right material!
We listened to the end-user to address the historical objections many have had to rubber hoses. As a result, we’ve invented the BluBird Rubber Hose range. They are similar in weight to ‘hybrid’ hoses and even lighter than some. At around 40% the weight of the average rubber hoses on the market. This difference becomes very significant when length and size increase.

Unmatched Cold-Weather Flexibility
BluBird hoses remain genuinely (and not just for numbers’ sake like some of the hybrid hoses) usable in temperatures as low as -45°C (or even lesser).
Tests have shown that there is a difference as substantial as 16°C in the flexibility of BluBird vs. most popular, vivid-coloured hybrid hoses. That means BluBird hoses are as flexible at -34°C as Hybrid alternatives are at -18°C.

Experts would agree, the process which makes these hoses lighter also makes them much stronger. The abrasion resistance, the tear and cutting defiance and the pressure performance are amongst the best on the market. It easily exceeds, doubly so in some parameters, RMA IP-2 (the UL Air hose standard).
It also has a 4:1 safety factor– something most popular hybrid hoses are missing (which is a basic requirement of RMA IP-2).

Every single BluBird hose is tested at 400PSI before it is dispatched from the manufacturing facility. Many other parameters (such as ageing, tensile strength, burst pressure, elongation, weathering, flex-count etc.) are all tested with a strict sampling plan. All of this means we can confidently offer a 10-year warranty across much of the BluBird range.
